Get to Know Your Belts and Hoses

Your vehicle’s belts and hoses make it possible for each of the parts to function. If it weren’t for the belt that connects the engine to the alternator, there would be no charge to keep the system running. In fact, without the timing belt that connects to the cam and crankshafts, the valves and pistons wouldn’t open and close to operate the engine.

It’s hard to imagine in this day of modern conveniences what riding in a car without air conditioning would be like on a sweltering hot day. It just needs the compressor. Each component works off of another through a connection with a belt or hose. That’s the reason routine maintenance is so critical to keeping your vehicle running.

When you notice a sound you shouldn’t, like squealing, it’s time to have it checked. Belts and hoses wear out with age and use. It’s recommended to catch potential problems before they get out of hand, and replace belts and hoses as needed.
