Ram 1500
Changes and Updates 2012-2023
The Ram
1500 has evolved over the past decade to meet the needs of truck drivers.
Starting in 2012, the Dodge Ram 1500 changed to the Ram 1500 title, with brands
splitting to focus on their individual strengths. In 2013, the Ram 1500
received styling and performance updates, including available projector-beam
halogen headlamps with LED turn signals and Ram badging. The performance
updates included an optional four-corner air suspension, an available
eight-speed automatic transmission, and a new 3.6-liter V6 engine.
Starting in
2014, the new Ram 1500 started offering a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine for
impressive low-rev power and towing. The next significant change to the Ram
1500's history was in 2019, with a complete redesign that was wider yet lighter
than the previous generation. Instead of the crosshair grille design, the Ram
1500 started offering "RAM" lettering. With Quad- and crew-cab
configurations becoming available, drivers had more room and seating for
passengers.
A standard
3.6-liter V6 engine includes an eTorque mild-hybrid system, providing a boost
of torque and enhanced efficiency. The 2019 Ram 1500's 5.7-liter Hemi V8 has
the option of an eTorque system, too. Some updates for the 2020s Ram trucks include
a new 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine in 2020, new editions and trim levels in 2022,
and a new digital driver display and LED hitch light in 2023.
