It would come as no surprise to us if we were told the New Years' party at Chrysler was still raging on. With the kind of 2013 they had, they deserve it.

2013 on the whole saw some impressive gains for automakers across the board--a sign that the automotive industry is bouncing back from its slump. Yet for the Detroit-based automaker, "bounce back" is a bit of an understatement.

The numbers tell it all. The annual sales growth was at 6 percent for 2013, the best the Chrysler Group has seen since 2007. With the group's December sales of 161,007 units, that adds up to a total annual sales of 1.8 million vehicles.

A big help for Chrysler in the last two months of the year was the new Cherokee, which continued its strong sales with 15,000 units. Although this is only the new crossover's second month on the market, it's already surpassed sales of the popular Wrangler, and is a hop, skip and a jump away from dethroning the brand's own Grand Cherokee (which sold 16,517 units).

The RAM Trucks brand also contributed heavily to sales this year, with a gain of 22 percent over 2012, and an 11 percent jump for December. The lion's share of the sales were garnered by their pickups, of which over 33,000 were sold.
